Positivity and Progress for 2018

With the New Year just a few days away, the time to contemplate the positive changes that you want to make in 2018 is now!

You may already be aware of the changes you wish to make in the year ahead, as well as the goals that you wish to work towards. However, if you do not have a solid idea yet then it is a good idea to take a moment to assess the year that has just passed.

What do you feel went well in 2017? What did you achieve? What do you wish you had done differently or given more importance and attention to? Perhaps you had an ambition for this year that you weren’t able to accomplish. It’s a great idea to reassess your intentions in regards to these things, and then decide if further action should be taken.

Big Goals

The large goals that you wish to accomplish may stay the same for you this year. Perhaps you are studying or working towards a difficult career change. Think about how you have progressed with these things in the last 12 months, and then determine if there’s anything you can do to enhance your progress in the 12 months that now lay ahead of you.

Healthy Living

Positive changes can also take a different form, such as making adjustments and improvements to your diet and lifestyle. Will this be the year that you find an exercise that you enjoy and can partake in regularly? Will it be the year that you kick your food cravings to the curb and embrace a healthier diet? Maybe this is the year that you truly embrace self-love and self-care, and in doing so boost your happiness!

Relationships

The way that you interact and engage with other people – especially those who are closest to you – is also perhaps something that you wish to pay attention to this coming year. If you feel like you have been neglecting your relationships recently, or that you have drifted apart from certain people, then the New Year is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to these people again.

Wellness for 2018

However you wish to move into the New Year, I believe it is super important to do so with kindness for yourself and those around you. Be sure to express gratitude to the people that you appreciate, and extend forgiveness to those who you believe to be in need of it. The New Year is a chance for a new start – both for you and everyone around you!

How to Rebuild Your Confidence

There are many reasons why your confidence and your self-esteem may have been negatively affected. It may have been the result of several small incidents, or perhaps even one ongoing situation. Regardless of the reason for your low confidence, the effects that it can have on your life can be difficult to overcome.

When you don’t believe in yourself or in your abilities, it can be tricky to motivate and encourage yourself to do the things that you truly want to do. It can seem impossible to actually give yourself the push you need to work towards your goals and ambitions.

So, how can you overcome this issue with your confidence and self esteem in order to lead a more fulfilling and ambitious life?

Taking care of your own needs is the first step, and in doing this you will be moving self-care to the top of your list of priorities! Self-care can take many forms, and essentially means you are recognising your own needs and taking productive and active steps to meet these needs.

I would encourage you to make a physical list of the things that make you happy, such as exercise, socialising, travelling, listening to music etc, and then ask yourself how often you actually do these things. I would then ask you to commit to finding the time to do these things often, and you can then notice how your perception of yourself changes and your confidence grows.

Next, try to establish what your negative views of yourself are – by this I mean the reasons for your low confidence levels. Do you perhaps think that you are not doing great at your job? Or, do you believe you aren’t taking care of your family well enough? Perhaps you don’t like the way that you look and would like to change your appearance in some way?

All of these negative views about yourself will have their roots in fear – a fear of change, a fear of failure, a fear of being judged. Whatever your fears are, it is important to recognise that these fears come from within you, and therefore you have the power to silence these thoughts and to kick them out of your mind!

Combatting negativity with positivity is key to a happy life, full of confidence. And, we all have the potential to enhance the positivity within us so that less and less space exists to allow the negativity in!

Life Hacks for Optimum Health

If you are someone who finds it hard to keep their own health at the top of their priority list then you are certainly not alone. With busy schedules and limited time to get everything done, there is often simply not enough hours in the day to adequately meet our own needs when it comes to exercise, nutrition and self-care.

Finding simple and efficient ways to stay healthy can go a long way to making your days more manageable. Read on for my favourite three ways to do so! Embracing these concepts as a standard part of your life and your routine won’t take much effort or adjusting to, and could really help to boost your health! Which, in turn, can boost your happiness!

Get an App!

Using apps to track your health and fitness is an easy way to stay on top of your progress as well as your general health. This is a particularly good way to keep a food diary, or to record your activity in the gym. It is also simple and advisable to track your steps with a digital pedometer. This will help you to make sure that you get a decent amount of exercise during the day. 10,000 steps a day is a great goal!

Ditch the BPA!

Buying plastic disposable bottles for your water is not only bad for the environment, but can also be damaging to your health! BPA is found in hard plastics, such as those used for bottled water, and is also in some food packaging. When you are exposed to it regularly it can interact with the hormones in your body, causing disruption to their natural production and function. Get yourself a BPA-free bottle and keep refilling it during the day!

Walk, Run, Cycle!

Always driving from A to B is a surefire way to sabotage your own health. If it’s possible for you to walk everywhere during your day then do so! If the distance between the places you need to go are too great then get yourself a bike! There is such a wide variety of cycle gear available these days that you can keep yourself dry and comfortable regardless of the weather! You may think that you are not fit enough to cycle and to you I would say that this is not something to worry about! Start at your own pace and build up to cycling longer distances. You will more than likely be surprised at how quickly your fitness improves.

How to Persist with Positivity

As we come towards the end of January, it can be easy to place less importance on the resolutions and goals that you felt were super important at the beginning of the year.

You may already have a solid idea of what it is you want to achieve this year. However, you may also not yet be so aware of where 2017 will take you. Whichever of these situations sounds more true to your own experience, the key to moving forwards is to enable your own positivity.

Positive thinking is a concept that can bring an abundance of happiness into your life, and isn’t something that you should ignore! Often you may feel as though your happiness comes to you naturally, and on other occasions it can be harder to find the source of these positive feelings. This is why knowing how to create a positive mindset for yourself in any situation is beneficial for every aspect of your life.

Meditation

Making time for conscious positivity every day is one of the best ways to ensure that it doesn’t leave your life. For example, spend a short period of time practicing meditation and focusing on all of the great things in your life that you are grateful for. These can be small things, or brief interactions with people that left you feeling good. They can also be larger ideas and tangible things that you are proud of.

Positive Affirmations

Repeating positive affirmations to yourself during the day is also a great way to encourage a continuos positive mindset. Using positive affirmations can seriously help to re-route negative thought patterns and help you to avoid dwelling on past problems, thereby allowing positivity to persist.

Self-Care

Self-care can take many forms. It is an amazing way to keep a smile on your face and peace in your mind. Small acts of self-care may involve making an effort every morning to have a routine that readies you for the day, taking time to be by yourself in nature, or having periods away from technology and the general noise of modern day life.

Incorporating all of the aforementioned concepts into your life will help you to create the happiness you want for yourself. There is no limit to how this positivity can grow and impact you and those around you!

A New Start for the New Year

As we approach 2017 you may be feeling nostalgic for all of the wonderful things that have happened in your life this year. You may also be keen for the year to draw to a close if it has been a difficult or challenging time for you.

The great thing about the New Year is that it is an opportunity to look at your life with fresh eyes and re-evaluate what is important to you. The New Year is a chance for change and a chance to truly forgive yourself for any mistakes made in the year that has just passed.

If you want to start 2017 on the right path to a year full of health, happiness and positivity then it is important to set intentions for the next 12 months. What is it you want to achieve and how are you going to support yourself to reach these goals?

Your aims for this upcoming year may be tangible things that can be worked towards, such as moving house or completing an educational course. Your aims may also be more personal to you and involve your relationship with yourself and those around you.

Whatever your aims are for 2017 it helps to clarify them out loud to yourself as you contemplate the best route to your goals.

It is always beneficial to have the support of those around you and sharing your goals and ambitions with your friends and family is a great idea. In doing so, you can also find out what their hopes are for the year ahead and offer them your support in accomplishing these things.

The key to successful change is to not take too much on at once and to consider your goals one at a time. Trying to do everything at once will inevitably leave you feeling overwhelmed, and then discourage you from wanting to continue with your positive change. There is no need to prioritise your intentions in order of importance as you will find you are more inclined to work towards certain things first. Take your own guidance and allow things to progress naturally.

There is no limit to what you can achieve for yourself in the next year with the right support and determination!

How to Turn Curiosity into Passion

If you visit my blog regularly then you may have noticed that I am keen to help people follow their dreams and passions. Sometimes we can all use a little nudge towards the ambitions that we have, but what about those of us who do not know what our dreams are yet? If this sounds like you, and you haven’t yet figured out what you are passionate about, then being told to follow your passions can be frustrating.

It seems as though some people are born knowing what they want to do with their lives. They have job goals from a young age or talents that come naturally to them which guide their path. For those of us who this is not applicable to, all of the advice about following your passion can seem pointless. However, not yet knowing what you want out of life, or what it will take to make you happy, does not mean that you never will! The process of self discovery is an exciting journey that has no set pace.

So, if you do not yet know what your passion or passions are in life is, how can you set about figuring it all out?

First of all, try to contemplate all of the things that you are interested in or curious about. These do not have to be huge things and actually might seem quite insignificant to you. They may be things that you encounter every day or they may be things that you have only ever thought about. Once you are certain of these things, you can set about exploring them further.

Perhaps you have always been enchanted by some far away exotic destination and this could inspire a passion for travel. Perhaps your curiosities are more ingrained within you, such as a desire to create something.

Taking the time to learn more about the things that you have a curiosity for can quickly become a very fulfilling activity. Some people negate this act as they don’t see that it is immediately beneficial to their lives, or consider it a waste of time. But these small acts of curiosity can quickly lead to larger acts of adventure and self-discovery.

Allowing yourself the time to indulge in the things that fascinate and intrigue you is a great way to take a break from the parts of your life that feel like obligations. In time you may feel that certain things that you were curious about no longer interest you – and that’s okay! This simply means this thing wasn’t your passion in life and there was no harm in letting yourself explore it. If you continue to approach everything in this way, and never tell yourself no when you want to discover something new, then you will surely be on track to filling your life with passion and happiness.

My online e-learning portal will soon have a new course dedicated to self-love, letting go and happiness which are all concepts that can help us to understand our passions! Head to the Flexi Foodie Academy soon to sign up and Like my Facebook page to be the first to know when it comes out!

Use Your Mind to Create The Future You Want

The idea that the thoughts you frequently experience in your mind mould your experience in life is a one that is often contemplated. Can we really imagine the existence that we want into reality simply through positive thinking? It may sound far-fetched for some, but there are a growing number of people who advocate this way of improving your life.

Far from being able to magically manifest the life you want by spending a few moments picturing it in your mind, this takes a great deal of commitment and dedication. It is not enough to simply dream of the life you want and expect it to appear. You must make a conscious effort to bring these things out of your mind and into your life.

Using mental imagery and positive thinking to instigate change and work towards your ambitions can be extremely rewarding. But, how does it work?

First of all, in order for this to be a success you will need to be completely honest with yourself about the things that you want in your life. Contemplate where you are in currently in the grand scheme of things and where you would like to be in the next few years. When you have a clear idea of what it is eactly that you want, you will be better equipped to work towards it.

Secondly, remember that visualising your future and fantasising about unrealistic dreams are two different things. If you try to imagine a future for yourself that you know is completely out of reach, then you are likely to be disappointed in the long run. That’s not to say that you shouldn’t aim high! Simply that you should be sensible in your desires and your future goals for yourself.

Finally, be fearless and don’t listen to the negativity of other people. We all know that change is scary but it is a necessary part of evolving as a person. If we all stayed still forever then we would have extremely boring and unfulfilling lives. We have to step outside of our comfort zones in order to live the lives we truly want. So, if you picture yourself moving to a different country or quitting your job to follow your passion, then be sure to turn these thoughts into actions. When you make a huge change like this it is inevitable that certain people around you will have a negative attitude about it. Don’t let them project their own fears onto you and simply let them know that you are making positive changes for the better.

Make sure to always take the time to check in with yourself about the progress you are making. Self-reflection is a powerful tool and when you combine it with visualisation and positive thinking techniques then there is no telling how far you can go!

How Affirmations Aid Yoga Practice

Using affirmations during your yoga practice is a great way to encourage yourself to reach new levels, both physically and mentally. If you’re not familiar with affirmations then let me introduce you! They are simply short but powerful statements which help you to gain control of your conscious thoughts. You can either say these statements out loud or repeat them to yourself in your mind – either way the aim is to create a thought process then then becomes your reality!

On average, we each have between 45,000 and 51,000 thoughts every day (which is between 150 to 300 thoughts every minute). Studies into our thought processes have shown that around 80% of these thoughts tend to be negative!

When you’re engaging in exercise, such as yoga, it is particularly useful if you have a stream of positive thoughts flowing through your mind. This is because positive thoughts help us to perform better and also help us to believe that we can achieve the things we are striving for in that moment. Whereas exercise accompanied by negative thoughts will leave us feeling unmotivated and reluctant to push through the pain to reach our goals.

Taking action in this instance is easily done by taking control of your thoughts, and that is something that is within everyone’s reach. Choosing the affirmations that you are going to say to yourself does not have to be complicated and you can even have a short list of affirmations that you can take inspiration from each day for a yoga session. They don’t necessarily even have to be specific to yoga or exercise related at all.

With your affirmations, it is important to occasionally focus on how every small step that you are taking is a stride towards your goals. Opting for affirmations that encourage this idea, such as, “every day, in every way, I am becoming fitter and healthier”, or “with every twist and every pose my body is becoming stronger”.  However, repeating affirmations that are more general to life and continued progress are also beneficial for an improved state of mind and better yoga practice.

The next time you approach the yoga mat, be sure to have one or two positive affirmations in mind. Use these affirmations throughout your session, not just when a particular pose starts to feel difficult. Constant encouragement will keep your mind focused and help to prevent feelings of negativity – making it much more likely that you’ll enjoy and benefit from your session!

Positive Diet and Lifestyle Changes for 2014

As the events of New Years Eve inevitably get placed in the memory bank of 2013, most of us are looking forward to the year to come with a positive attitude. The resolutions that we didn’t quite manage to fulfil at the beginning of last year are fresh on our minds again. More often than not, people fail to stick to the promises they make themselves at the start of a new year. If you don’t want to be part of this statistic in 2014 then it’s time to truly make a change!

Your diet plays a huge part in many other aspects of everyday life and changing your attitude to the foods you consume can help get other aspects of your life on track. Before you begin looking to make dietary changes, it’s a good idea to really analyse your goals. In doing this, it helps to be very precise about what you want to achieve. Let’s take a look at some typical New Year’s resolutions as an example.

1)      I want to lose weight! This is a great one but make sure you pick a figure! How much weight do you want to lose? What number do you want the scales to display when you look down at them in two months? Six months? A year?

2)      I want to drink less alcohol! This is also a great decision and your body will thank you for it. However, it’s better to have a measurable objective that you can strive towards. Will you only drink at weekends? Or special occasions? Or perhaps not at all! If you are only going to drink at special occasions then how many units will you attempt to stick to?

Once you have a concise list of your New Year’s resolutions, make a few copies and pin them up. Ensure they are in places where you will see a list at least once a day. By reminding yourself of your goals you will always keep them fresh in your mind and you will be more likely to apply them to everyday decisions. This will also help you to avoid the negative influences of other people who might be keen to lead you astray.

Next, it’s time to make some lifestyle changes. This is especially important if you have fitness ambitions in mind. Your energy levels are massively affected by the foods you eat and the amount of sleep you enjoy. Try to get at least seven hours of undisturbed sleep every night and ensure a wholegrain or protein rich breakfast is on the agenda in the morning. As lunch time hunger sets in, consider a plant based option that will also give you a healthy dose of essential fats. Perhaps an avocado and cashew nut salad prepared the night before. Eating well throughout the day will give you more opportunity to eat more carbohydrate dense foods in the evenings – guilt free! Steamed vegetables served with brown rice provides a satisfying and nutritious meal or perhaps opt for a wholegrain pasta dish.

Making some time before breakfast to meditate will relax you for the day ahead by providing you with the focus and perspective that you need to keep on track with your goals. Meditation can be practiced at any point throughout the day but I strongly recommend a brief session in the morning. Meditation is also useful for relaxing in the evenings and can help you better digest the events of your day, thereby putting you in a more peaceful state that will aid a good night’s sleep. Another good practice for the evenings is to write a page or so about what has happened in your day. This can be a comprehensive diary of your thoughts, feelings and actions or it can be just a few simple lines to remember your day. In doing so you can address any issues you have encountered during the day after you’ve had some time to reflect on them.

It’s important that you are honest with yourself during the whole process. Any setbacks that may occur are just that – setbacks, they are not a reason to give up entirely! It is perfectly okay to readjust the timeframe of your goals if you feel like you are getting behind. Following these simple steps will help you to avoid falling into the trap of reaching the beginning of 2015 and starting from scratch with the same resolutions!
