During this time of year it is easy to get stressed out by all of the additional pressures that go hand in hand with the holiday season. And, because of this, you will likely have seen article after article talking about the best ways to beat that festive stress.
Although staying on top of our stress levels is of course important, it is also great if we can find ways to truly enjoy this time of year.
If you celebrate Christmas with your extended family then this may be one of few occasions during the year when you all come together. This is particularly the case when family members live quite far away from each other. Spending time with family members that you don’t often see can be great fun, but can also sometimes cause tension or disagreements to occur. Old arguments may also resurface – especially if no resolution was ever reached.
If this is the case for you this Christmas then remember that it is important to set boundaries and you can choose to not engage in any negativity that may arise! Decide instead to spend time with those who encourage, support and nurture you.
During the Christmas period your healthy diet may take a back seat, and that’s something that’s easily done due to the food-centric nature of this holiday! Although it is important to not overdo it when it comes to indulging, it is also good to not restrict yourself too much. If you’re constantly worried about counting the calories of the treats on offer to you then you are going to struggle to truly enjoy yourself.
Try instead to choose healthy snacks and avoid having seconds. The same applies to any alcoholic drinks that you may be offered – try to stick to a slimmer option and go easy on the refills.
If you do find this time of year to be quite stressful, despite all of the positive aspects of it that you do still enjoy, then remember that it will pass! In just a few days you can get your routine back to normal and get back to focusing on your plans, goals and ambitions for 2018!
